Staten Island is a wonderful borough situated in the southwest region of NYC. The New York Bay separates Staten Island from rest of New York. Visiting this picturesque and beautiful island for holidaying is a great idea and below are some interesting ways to spend your time here.

1. Ride the Majestic Ferry[6][7][8]. The Staten Island Ferry is the most important attraction of Staten Island, you simply can't afford to miss it. 

It is operated by the NYC Dept. of Transportation and is absolutely fare free since 1997[7]!

2. Get back to your cultural roots at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden[9]. Also popularly known as Sailors' Snug Harbor, this is a historically important place and a collection of architecturally significant nineteenth century buildings in Staten Island. 

The buildings are set in an 83-acre (34 hectare) park along the Kill Van Kull in New Brighton, on the North Shore of Staten Island.

3. Become street smart by getting on the streets of Staten Island. You can fill yourself with all kinds of delicacies from ice-creams and pastries to cookies and cakes, and also do all varieties of shopping on the streets of Staten Island.

4. Visit Staten Island Mall to buy your stuff[8]. Located in the New Springville neighborhood, this mall is literally a one stop shop for all your shopping needs.

For reaching here, you can use several bus services such as The Express New York City Transit Authority which ply through this mall.

5. Marvel the depths of the seas by taking a walk at St. George Esplanade. Its a long stretch of paved ground besides the seashore where you can take a walk while enjoying the calm breeze.

6. Take a breath of fresh air by visiting Clove Lakes Park[11]. Located in the neighborhood of Sunnyside, Cloves Lakes is a public park which has historical significance and some artifacts from the past.

The park is also home to a variety of diverse wildlife species such as fishes like black crappie, brown bullhead, bluegill, etc. and birds like red-tailed hawk, belted kingfisher, double-crested cormorant, etc. Interesting mammals like eastern chipmunk and muskrat are also to be found here.

7. Sip a chilled beer at Play Sports Bar by the Annadale Train station[14][3]. There are a bunch of other bars too like Burrito Bar, Kilmeyer's or Pier 76.

There is also one called Flagship Brewery which many consider cool. If you're interested in German bar food then Nurnberger Bierhalle is for you.

8. Have a delicious meal at Adobe blues[2][3]. Its a beautiful restaurant located at a very serene and pictursque location, you'll fill not just your tummy but also your mind!

9. Try Italian delicacies at Marie's 2[4]. From pizzas to pastas, you'll find a great variety of Italian food here. But pizzas are a speciality and a must try. They also come in generous servings and most are reasonably priced under $20.

10. Visit the Dosa Garden in case you're interested in Sri Lankan or South Indian food[1][5]. The area around the ferry is home to many Sri Lankans. Many redditors highly recommend going to Lakruwana for their buffet on Saturday or Sunday. Its near the Ferry Terminal.

11. Pique your interest in lighthouses at the National Lighthouse Museum[4]. You can find a large collection of interesting miniature lighthouse models from 29 states, all sitting in cute little boxes just waiting to amuse you! The museum also sells $60 tickets for boat tours to nearby lighthouses, ship graveyards and other places around the New York Harbor.

12. Indulge your sense of patriotism by visiting Fort Wadsworth[4]. It is one of the longest operating military forts in the United States and also a historical attraction for visitors[12]!

13. Visit the Staten Island Museum to satisfy your curiosity with antiques[13]. This museum exhibits artifacts which are categorized into three main collections called Natural Sciences, Fine Art, and History Archives & Library. A must visit for someone with interest in history and eye for detail.

14. Lose yourself to the soothing music at the Court Yard Friday Conserts[4]. This weekly concert series goes down just across the street from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The lineup includes performances like live techno outfit Worldtown Soundsystem, Latin-jazz vet Papo Vázquez and acoustic jazz ensemble UTA All Stars.
